Studio time part 2

So this picture of James Franco (by Doug Inglish) from the current Vanity Fair inspired the current photo shoot. We tried to mimic the lighting on this with the equipment availible. There was a spotlight focused on the background to bring out the contrast of the person that was lite up in the foreground. We also had a soft box on the right to soften the shadows.

This is a picture of Marie Soleil, i caught her in mid turn, that's what gave the movement in the hair but along with the movement you can see the background light.

This is Carmine, the guy in charge of the studio. He was the one that was giving the lessons about lighting.

This is Tony, he's a fashion photographer that joined our lunch time photo session. He's really good, he knows lighting & poses.

My Squirrely Friends

While this may not meet the intended theme here of 'Friends' – I think that since I have hung out with these cuties since they first came out to smell the fresh air, and now hang out with me on the patio if I don't move to quickly, they now qualify.

I'm posting three pics here for feedback.

1) This one I have cropped, to get rid of a lot of the door frame, but I feel almost that without the door frame, the 'peek a boo' nature of this shot is lost. Thoughts?

2) This shot 100% does not work. What I'm trying to show is him peeking up through the fence, but it just isn't working. Is it a depth of field issue? Is he just too small and is getting lost? If the lines from the deck or fence were different, would it help? The concept felt right, the excecution, not so much.

3) I waited a few hours for this one – and tried really hard to focus on his eyes, because I knew I would have a short depth of field. Not sure if there is too much going on in this shot, or if either of them have enough personality, but it took me so long to get… (not sure why it's so pixelated, probably because I didn't use photoshop to resize..)

Overall, any feedback welcome re: wildlife photography, or these pics in general. (colours got munged up when I resized.. so.. ya..)

Studio time

Sabba

This is a picture of a co-worker (Sabba) I took in our photo studio at work during lunch. I was getting a crash course in portrait lighting.
